AUFBADEN-ABBADEN. spa culture in Baden

guided by Christine Triebnig-Löffler

City walks are only available in english on request.

Baden owes its origins to the healing sulfur springs that have been bubbling up from the earth for around 2,000 years, known as the "Yellow Gold." We step back in time to around 1800, when baths were not only centers for healing and relaxation but also "hot spots" for entertainment and diversion. With their parks, spa orchestras, theaters, villas, coffee houses, and spa hotels, they offered a charming ensemble for an illustrious clientele, as well as the backdrop for many romances. We will "bathe" in the historic Karolinenbad, visit other former and current spa locations, discuss the healing powers of water, and end with a well-deserved refreshment at the elegant former bath Hotel Herzoghof.
