This anniversary will be commemorated with numerous events.

Baden - the "real" city of the European anthem

"The Path of the Ninth - From Baden to the World" can be seen at the Beethovenhaus Baden. Two original letters written by Ludwig van Beethoven during one of his summer stays in Baden clearly prove that parts of today's European anthem were composed on the premises of the Beethovenhaus Baden. Mayor Stefan Szirucsek commented: "With these two letters, we now have definitive proof that Baden is rightly known as the city of the European anthem. I warmly recommend the special exhibition in the Beethovenhaus Baden and the anniversary program not only to music connoisseurs". The Biedermeier-style living quarters also provide an insight into the composer's life and surroundings in the town of Baden, where he repeatedly visited for health treatments. Admission is free on May 7 as part of an open day. On the same day, the official anthem of the European Union will be played three times in Baden as a sound cloud. At 10.30 a.m. in the Orangery in Doblhoffpark and at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Kurpark. Admission is also free. On May 23rd, the grand opening concert of the Beethoven Spring, initiated by the world-famous pianist Dorothy Khadem-Missagh, will take place at Casino Baden. Following in Beethoven's footsteps...

"If you want to follow in Beethoven's footsteps, there are many other options in the Vienna Woods. You can hike along the same paths that the musical genius walked more than 200 years ago, but you can also follow his routes by bike or mountain bike," explains Wienerwald Tourismus Managing Director Michael Wollinger. The shortest option is the Beethoven Trail in Baden's Kurpark, where you can stroll from the park entrance to the Beethoven Temple in just a few minutes. From there you can join the 4.7 km long Beethoven Panorama Trail. This panorama trail is the link between the Beethoven circular hiking trail over the Iron Gate on the Hoher Lindkogel and the Beethoven walking trail from Baden to Mödling and back. Finally, there is also an almost 11 km long cycle path in the Anninger mountain bike area, which is named after Beethoven.  The hiking trails are maintained by the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) and the Lower Austrian Mountain and Nature Watch. A tip for feeling the inspiration of the master. More at www.wienerwald.info/beethoven-wandern
