Gartenstadt Baden wins European award for ecological gardening!

European Award for Ecological Gardening 2023

While there were only half as many people on earth in 1974, the United Nations estimates that there will be eight billion by 2023. This is just one of many reasons to think about green spaces and gardens. We humans therefore need many solutions and ideas for high-quality living spaces and a good common future.

The European Award for Ecological Gardening 2023 honors outstanding, realized, high-quality projects and achievements in three categories that are based on ecological gardening. We are looking for innovative and sustainable projects with exemplary character that are designed close to nature, are ecologically maintained and can also incorporate social and economic aspects. Participation is open to all. Gardeners, planning offices, municipalities and local authorities, educational institutions, research institutions, initiatives and associations from all European nations are particularly welcome.

"Natur im Garten", represented by the Province of Lower Austria and the "European Garden Association - Natur im Garten International", the "Natur im Garten" GmbH and the "Natur im Garten" Service GmbH award this prize in recognition of outstanding ecological gardening achievements. The Europe-wide award is presented by an international jury of experts. The jury selects one winning project per category.

Gartenstadt Baden wins European award for ecological gardening!

Baden was chosen by an international jury from "Natur im Garten" as the winner in the "Climate-friendly municipal green spaces" category of the "European Award for Ecological Gardening".
The award was presented to the city on October 13, 2023 in Innsbruck.

Mayor Stefan Szirucsek is delighted with the award: "By switching to extensive perennial areas, species-rich flower meadows and flowering mixtures, Baden's municipal gardens have created valuable habitats for insects, bees and birds that blend in perfectly with the cityscape. The sustainable design of public green spaces and the implementation of targeted rainwater management have been implemented in Baden since 2019. Our innovative 'Ecology meets World Heritage' strategy also impressed the international jury.

"The jury, with members from Germany, England, Italy, Austria and Hungary, selected the winners from 72 applications.
The award confirms the path taken and the work of the Urban Gardens department.
The design of green spaces in the city is one part of the green space strategy. Other parts are the conversion of the municipal forest and the maintenance of valuable dry grassland areas together with the landscape conservation association.
