Baden near Vienna - Great Spa Towns of Europe
From the "quirky" Beethoven to Mozart's drinking pleasure - experience exciting stories of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Baden with the certified Baden Austria Guides as part of our four different themed town walks!
1. Saturday: „In the city of yellow gold“
More than 4 million litres of sulphur water gush out of Baden's thermal springs every day. The town owes its wealth and its development into a world health resort to this natural treasure. We explore historic and modern bathhouses and, as a special highlight, the underground Roman spring in the spa gardens, which is otherwise inaccessible.
2. Saturday: "Hotspot of the High Society!"
The Habsburgs not only invested in the development of the spa town, they also created a social hype. Baden's spa lists read like a Who's Who of European history. We visit the luxury-bathing temple of Emperor Franz II (Frauen-bad) and stroll by the imposing town houses to the social parquet of the Kurpark.
3. Saturday: "With Beethoven & Co on summer vacation!"
Probably the most legendary spa guest, Ludwig van Beethoven, wrote his ninth symphony (European anthem) in Baden. We go in search of traces of famous musicians and their immortal works and explore how Beethoven, Mozart, Strauß & Co. lived and what inspired them. We visit the parish church of St. Stephan and the underground Roman spring in the Kurpark.
4. Saturday: "Cure pleasure"
The crowned heads of Europe, rich Viennese, dashing officers, good wives and lovers - they all came to recharge their batteries, cure ailments and indulge in pleasure. On our enjoyable walk through the city, we rediscover the places of entertainment of that time - from the illegal gambling den to the elegant municipal theatre, from the flair mile in the spa gardens to the women's baths (including a tour), where the emperor enjoyed himself.
